Vanessa Shiu

Vanessa oversees the operations of the DMZ from HR to finance, the DMZ space to information system. Vanessa chairs the DMZ Diversity & Inclusion Committee and leads initiatives that support under-represented groups succeed in tech and entrepreneurship.

Prior to joining the DMZ, Vanessa worked in social services and the non-profit sector. Vanessa managed employment programs that supported internationally trained immigrants and marginalized women with their workforce integration and career development. Vanessa has also led a public health pilot project to build awareness about Hepatitis B for newcomers. She brings experience in project and budget management, team building, as well as community & stakeholder engagement.

Vanessa graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Women’s Studies. Originally from Vancouver, Vanessa made the move to Toronto in 2014 in search of a new adventure!
