The DMZ opens in New York City
TORONTO, June 13, 2017– With an unprecedented demand from the Canadian startup ecosystem, the DMZ at Ryerson University has announced the opening of a new office in New York City.
Available to startups across Canada, the DMZ will provide both a physical space and a community that supports entrepreneurs in growing successful global businesses. The new DMZ office, located at Primary, is a collaborative workspace in New York City’s financial district.
“Our new space in New York City, which complements our existing incubator in Toronto, is designed to provide a landing pad for Canada’s fast-growing tech startups looking to grow their customer base in the U.S.,” said Abdullah Snobar, executive director of the DMZ at Ryerson University. “Along with providing startups access to a community and a network of potential partners, customers and investors, the new office will contribute to the interest from U.S. businesses towards Canadian tech startups.”
Located in a brick heritage building overlooking Battery Park, Primary’s 25,000 square foot facility for entrepreneurs includes a network of 300 entrepreneurs. The space includes private offices, coworking zones and monthly events. The office also includes an on-site fitness studio, a full service espresso bar and a lounge area.
“We’re proud to be part of the DMZ’s expansion as they make a mark in New York City,” said Lisa Skye Hain, co-founder of Primary. “Our workspace, which includes a community of peers and mentors, will provide Canadian entrepreneurs the foundation to take chances with a greater degree of certainty, setting them up for long-term success.”
Currently, the DMZ has five Canadian startups working out of the New York City office, including SlimCut Media, Reportin’ and Sampler.
“Canadian startups need international networks and sales for greater opportunities of growth,” says Marie Chevrier, founder and CEO of Sampler. “The DMZ’s new space will allow entrepreneurs to expand their market in New York City, while building successful companies in Canada.”
Applications to work out of the DMZ’s New York City office are open throughout the year. For more information, eligibility and to apply, visit here.

Primary is a workspace for entrepreneurs who appreciate the flexibility afforded by shared office space, but could do without the collegiate atmosphere synonymous with many of New York City’s offerings.
